If you have driven past a glass-walled court in the Valley lately and wondered what people were playing, the answer is padel. It is one of the fastest-growing racket sports in the world, and Tempe has a club built for it. This guide covers what padel is, where to play in Tempe, what it costs and what to expect on your first visit.
What is padel?
Padel is a doubles racket sport played on a court about a third the size of a tennis court, enclosed by glass walls and mesh fencing. You use a solid paddle with no strings and a ball that looks like a tennis ball with a little less pressure. Serves are underhand, scoring works like tennis, and the ball can bounce off the walls and stay in play.
That last part is what makes padel so easy to love. Rallies last longer, beginners can return shots they would miss in tennis, and most people are playing real points within their first hour. If you have played tennis, pickleball or squash, you will pick it up even faster.

No partner, no paddle, no membership needed
The biggest question we hear from first-timers is "who do I play with?" You do not need to bring anyone. Jump into Open Play, join a beginner group clinic, or call the front desk and tell us your level. We will find you a game with players who match it.
You also do not need your own equipment or a membership to get started. Come as you are.
Try padel free
New players can try the club free for a full week. Sign up at conquerpadel.com/starter-pass and book your first session from the Conquer Padel app.
What it costs after that
If you would rather pay as you go, walk-in court time is $18 per person per hour off-peak and $25 per person per hour at peak times. Memberships start with Standard at $45 a month, and your first month is half price. Members get lower court fees, discounts on clinics and longer booking windows. You can compare every plan on the Tempe club page.
There is no initiation fee, and memberships cancel with 30 days notice.
After you play
Every membership includes the recovery area: cold plunge, infrared sauna and red light therapy. A lot of our members plan their week around a match followed by the plunge.
Tips for your first visit
- Arrive 15 minutes early so the front desk can get you set up.
- Wear court shoes or tennis shoes. Running shoes slide on the court surface.
- Bring water. Padel moves more than it looks.
- Tell your group it is your first time. Padel players love bringing new people into the game.
Come for the game, stay for the people
Padel is a social sport, and the club calendar reflects that: weekly clinics, social round robins, women's nights and tournaments. On Saturday, November 14, we celebrate the club's first anniversary with a USA Padel sanctioned tournament, and everyone is welcome to come watch.
